Greasing up with Kielbasa & Sauerkraut on a Wintry-Mix Day

Just like that, the hill country in south Texas is getting freezing rain in the early morning of the first week of February! According to the weather reports, this condition will continue until the following day. 

My family has just moved here in south Texas between Austin and San Antonio in 2021 from Wisconsin, one of the coldest states in the midwest. So, imagine how we used to deal with a 2-feet of snow or more most winters and a -20 F or lower temperature in the past years.

This Texas freezing rain is very mild compared to where we came from, hence I loved it!

And just like that I started craving for something greasy, smokey, meaty! Some comfort food, Texas style. 

I looked into my fridge and pantry and wallah! I found kielbasa sausage, sauerkraut, rice, bell peppers, tomatoes and onions. Looks like I already know what I’m having for lunch!

I know some readers would raise eyebrows that STK is featuring processed sausage dish on a health-conscious platform like STK. They are right, all kinds of factory-processed sausages and hotdogs can load up so many calories due to high fats and sodium contents, not to mention those chemicals used in the curing process that are believed to be associated with stomach cancers. 

According to Harvard School of Public Health, a number of studies have found links between processed meat and various forms of cancer, as well as heart disease and diabetes.

However, in 2021 a new study from Dalhousie University in Canada was conducted by a team of experts in 7 different countries across the world. Their findings made all meat lovers in the world celebrate. 

The new research suggested there is no definitive proof that red meat or processed meat causes cancer, diabetes or heart disease. It even suggested keeping the consumption level to roughly 3-4 times a week.

I am not applauding this new study or discounting the Harvard claims. Again, it’s up to our best judgments on how to  keep our diets healthy. 

STK is consistently promoting consumption of all food groups in moderation. Sausages are fine to consume occasionally, and preferably a few times per week or less. So, whether you hate sausages or not, I’m having it today for lunch!
